Selecting the correct herbicide is essential as weeds differ in their susceptibility to some chemicals.
Weed control in turf situations will usually fall into two distinct categories, Annual and Perennial.
Annual weeds are likely to be more of a nuisance value rather than a serious problem.
Many of these weeds can be controlled through mowing but some grow flat against the turf and are untouched by the mower blades.
Excellent control will be provided by selective herbicide treatments carried out in the spring prior to seed head formation or during the autumn growth cycle.
Perennial weed control is more of a problem as they are usually well established.
Certain resistant species may require two treatments.
It is important to apply treatments during the spring and/or autumn when the weeds are actively growing. It is a good idea to apply a fertiliser two weeks before the herbicide treatments to assist intake of the chemical.
Note: Mowing of the grass should not be undertaken 24 hours before and after treatments. |
